Serving organic and locally grown goodness from a Hawaiian garden estate, Cafe Ono is unlike any other eatery on the Big Island. This unique restaurant has been in operation for more than 20 years and remains one of the best lunch destinations for visitors stopping by Old Volcano Park. Whether or not you have special dietary restrictions, this outstanding restaurant has invoked hundreds of five-star reviews from vegetarians and carnivores alike!

Cafe Ono was founded in 2002 by Ira Ono, an artist and chef hailing from the state of New York. Migrating to Hawaii from the mainland, Ira bought a local farmhouse to continue his dream: offering the most delicious food he could cook in the most beautiful environment he could make. Just one mile away from Hawaii Volcanos National Park, Ira’s centralized location is a place to share his creativity with the world.

Today, the chefs at Cafe Ono honor Ira’s legacy with a focus on locally sourced fruits and vegetables. All coffees and teas are freshly brewed from nearby farms, while ecologically sound partnerships allow them to offer organic entrees that restore the soil’s vitality. Feed yourself and your conscious with meals that offer so much more than flavor alone.

Visitors of the Cafe Ono are often impressed by its idyllic surroundings, including the lush tropical garden space for outdoor eating. Wildlife abounds in this safe and laid-back environment, including rescued rabbits and beautiful songbirds. A historic 1908 building lies just across the garden to the west, where diners can experience Ira Ono’s curated gallery of local and international art.

Cafe Ono is only available during lunchtime, meaning that this restaurant is packed to the brim during open hours. Come during the week for a less populated environment, or drop by for an early lunch as soon as they open. If you are planning on bringing a group of 5 or more persons, it’s a good idea to call at least two hours in advance.
