Kamoi Snack-n-Go is so-named for the many packaged snacks and drinks available. It’s the ice cream that draws everyone, though.
The snacks at Kamoi Snack-n-Go range from the typical convenience store standards to the less common Hawaiian favorites. There are at least three varieties of pork rinds next to the bags of candy. On the other side of the little store, you’ll find drinks such as Powerade and sodas.
The most noticeable thing at the store is the giant sign that reads “Dave’s Ice Cream.” Follow the arrow to what’s probably the best ice cream on the island. It might even be the best in all of Hawaii, although Honolulu and Kauai would probably have something to say about that claim.
Ice cream comes in cones, cups, and cardboard pints, Get a cone with a flavor or two, and then plan on taking a pint to go. A pint should stay cold in the cooler for a few hours at least. And yes, the ice cream is good enough to take a six-pack out of the cooler for.
You might miss the Kamoi Snack-n-Go store itself, for it’s fairly nondescript even though it’s in downtown Kaunakakai. You won’t miss the ice cream or crowd at the stand, however. Make sure you pull over when you see Dave’s name.
A few of our favorite items at Kamoi Snack-n-Go include:
Coconut Macadamia Nut Ice Cream
It’s hard to get more Hawaiian than coconut and macadamia nut — many of the world’s macadamias come from these islands. Combine the two flavors for tropical ice cream.
Kahlua Fudge Ice Cream
For a more adult taste, the Kahlua Fudge ice cream has a different classic island flavor. Like a mudslide that fits in a cone (or pint), it’s delicious alone paired with Coconut Macadamia Nut.
Green Tea Ice Cream
Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Green tea ice cream has both caffeine and sugar. It’ll keep you going without keeping you awake all night like having coffee later in the day could.
Pint of Ice Cream
Take a pint (or three) with you for later. All flavors are available in small cartons, which are the perfect portion for two people to share. You can also enjoy a full one yourself, as no one could blame you for wanting more when the ice cream is this good.
Pork Rinds
Pork rinds aren’t everyone’s favorite, but this is the place to grab a bag if you’re going to. There are several different brands to choose from, and each does actually taste a little different. Try each to see which is your favorite if you’re a pork rind aficionado, or buy one of the best-looking bags if you’ve never had them before.
