Aloha Kayaks Maui

Aloha Kayaks Maui -- Eco-Friendly Kayak and Snorkeling Tours
The Bottom Line:

Aloha Kayaks Maui offers three eco-friendly kayak and snorkeling tours. You'll get the chance to kayak near whales or paddle to "Turtle Town" to snorkel with tropical fish and Hawaiian Green sea turtles.

Aloha Kayaks Maui offers eco-friendly tours that enable you to see amazing marine life like turtles and whales. Green Paddle/Blue Waters isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s the business model driving Aloha Kayaks Maui. At the core of this motto is Sustainable Tourism and Education. Aloha Kayaks Maui uses kayaks that don’t use fossil fuel or oil that can harm the ocean. When anchoring, they find sandbars and don’t latch onto coral reefs. Visitors are encouraged to wear sun-blocking clothing instead of sunscreen, harming the reef system. When your guide shares their knowledge of the ocean and marine life, the educational aspect comes into play. You’ll better understand how to protect these precious resources and learn about marine life, too.

The man behind this innovative business is Griff. He is a 20-year native of Maui but discovered his passion for the water and marine life in North Carolina. Here, he developed his kayaking, fishing, and water skiing skills. Griff graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 1999 and immersed himself in the outdoor industry. Once he got to Maui, he eventually created Aloha Kayaks Maui and is the current owner/operator.

Aloha Kayaks Maui uses Malibu Two sit-on-top kayaks made by Ocean Kayak for all their tours. All tours come with:
Kayak
Tour guide
Life jacket
Snack and water
Snorkeling gear
Dry bag

Your price doesn’t include tax and gratuity, and it’s customary to tip the guide 10-20%. Children may participate, and Aloha Kayaks Maui has two-seat kayaks to accommodate. Children must be at least five-years-old for the Ultimate Maui Experience and ten for the Ultimate Whale Watch tour.

The Ultimate Maui Experience.

  • Limited to 10 guests
  • Approximately 3.5 hours long

Your day begins at 7:15 AM at Makena Landing. Here, you’ll meet your guide, who will provide safety and paddling instructions. Your guide assists guests in getting kayaks into the water, and then you paddle to “Turtle Town.” While Aloha Kayaks Maui can’t guarantee what sea life you’ll encounter, “Turtle Town” is noted for being abundant with the Hawaiian Green sea turtle.

You’ll anchor on the sand, don your snorkeling gear, and slip over the side of your kayak to explore the clear waters. When your day is over, you’ll paddle back to Makena Landing, where you can shower and dry off.

Ultimate Maui Whale Watch

  • Offered January-April 15
  • Limited to 10 guests
  • Approximately 3.5 hours long

Like the Ultimate Maui Experience, you meet your guide at 7:15 AM at the Makena Landing to get instructions. Guides will assist in launching kayaks and lead your group out for whale watching.

Federal law dictates that boats and people may only get 100 yards within whales. However, guests have reported that sometimes a whale will come close to you. Such sightings are rare, and Aloha Kayaks Maui cannot promise you’ll have the same experience. After whale watching, you’ll head to “Turtle Town” to snorkel. You’ll encounter tropical fish, vibrant coral, and more than likely the town’s main attraction: Hawaiian Green sea turtles. You’ll kayak back to Makena Landing to shower and dry off.

Ultimate Maui Group Excursion

  • 12-20 people
  • Approximately 3.5 hours long

Let Aloha Kayaks Maui create a custom tour for your school, church, or business group. A custom tour is also great for celebrating birthdays or special occasions. You’ll need to contact Griff at Aloha Kayaks Maui for specifics about this tour package.

We feel that Aloha Kayaks Maui will provide you with a safe, environmentally-friendly tour that allows you an up-close marine experience. Customers rave about the service and that watching whales breach from a kayak is more exciting than viewing from a large boat.

Insider Tip:
Aloha Kayaks Maui and customers advise eating a large, filling breakfast before your tour. Your guide will provide snacks on the water, but the excursion is long, and you’ll burn many calories paddling and snorkeling.
