Alii Kula Lavender Farm has transformed basic agriculture and horticulture into landscape artistry. Worthy of a Monet painting, this lavender farm is the perfect setting for everything from destination wedding photos to a simple, relaxing afternoon break.
Some 20 different varietals and cultivars of lavender are grown at Alii Kula Lavender Farm. The various hues and nuanced fragrances showcase lavender’s diversity to an extent that few people ever experience. Light purples, dark purples, and different nuanced notes are found throughout the farm’s 13.5 acres.
The variety of plants likewise ensures that at least some lavender is always in bloom. Although the plant isn’t native to Hawaii and is traditionally summer-grown, it’s adapted well to Maui’s climate and can grow year-round. The varietals bloom throughout the year, creating deep greens where the plants aren’t currently flowering and stripes of purple where they are. There are a few thousand lavender plants!
In addition to lavender, a range of olive trees, protea, hydrangea, succulents and other plants are also located throughout the farm. While fewer in number and therefore somewhat less captivating, these still make for some scenic landscape photographs or elegant portrait backgrounds.
The most popular way to experience the farm is by a self-guided tour, which can last anywhere from 15 minutes to more than an hour. A lavender treasure hunt is also set up, and suitable for both children and adults. The treasure hunt takes visitors out to some of the farm’s less-seen places and therefore, worth considering.
Maui has many beautiful settings where you can walk, picnic, and explore. The purple rows at Alii Kula Lavender Farm are unique from all of the other places on the island, though. Come here for a relaxing and rejuvenating time of agri-artistry appreciation.
A few of our favorite highlights at Alii Kula Lavender Farm include:
Self-Guided Tour
Explore the lavender farm at your own pace, going into as much or as little detail as you like. You can meander through the rows of purple for hours if you’d like to, or you can take just a 15-minute jaunt around the edges of a field.
Lavender Treasure Hunt
Let the hunt take you toward some of the farm’s more hidden spots. The treasures you’ll find are somewhat exciting, but they pale in comparison to the lesser-known views and secluded places that you’ll find throughout the property.
Gift Shop
Don’t forget to go through the gift shop, where you’ll find everything from lavender soaps and balms to lavender apparel and chocolate bars. Consider getting a lavender gift basket if you can’t settle on just one or two items.
