Featuring made from scratch food with locally sourced ingredients, Foster’s Kitchen brings fresh, upscale food to Kona. Foster’s Kitchen is located close to the water on Alii Drive. It’s just down the road from Keike Beach (Queen’s Bath).

When you order food here, it may take a little longer, but for a good reason. This restaurant is a “scratch kitchen”, which means that most food sold here is created in-house from scratch. Customers agree that the food is worth the wait.

The kitchen staff uses the freshest ingredients available. The chef has found inspiration for dishes from all over the island. This means that this restaurant supports local farmers and utilizes their fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat. Fresh food tastes better.

In addition, Foster’s Kitchen serves products that are made in Hawaii. These include locally made ice creams, Kona coffee, craft beers, kombucha, and locally made baked goods. When dining at Foster’s Kitchen, you are supporting more than one local business and truly experiencing the island.

The atmosphere inside is nice. The restaurant is open-air and offers lovely views. The restaurant is also situated right above a volleyball court. If you are seated on the balcony, you may be able to catch a match. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful and the decor is tastefully done.

The menu is extensive and everyone will be able to find something. There are some great choices for those looking for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes. Most dishes allow you to choose sides. Available sides include house-made fries, Cajun fries, truffle garlic fries, salad, sauteed vegetables, white rice, fruit, potato salad, and mashed potatoes.

Here is a look at some favorite dishes available at Foster’s Kitchen:

Stuffed Chicken
A tasty lightly dusted chicken breast that is stuffed with three cheeses, prosciutto, and rosemary. It’s pan-seared and is served with brown gravy, Hamakua Alii mushrooms, and caramelized Maui onions on top. It’s served with mashed potatoes and fresh sauteed veggies.

Flatbread Pizzas
The pizza dough is made from scratch using Big Wave Golden Ale. It’s a unique and fluffy crust. Choose from hot chicken, BBQ chicken, spinach, artichoke, and feta, grilled veggie with basil oil, country meat deluxe, cheese, and pepperoni.

Fresh Fish and Chips
Made with the fresh daily catch, the fish is country-style cornmeal fried. This dish is served with a side of slaw, tarter sauce, and house-made fries.

Ribs
Choose a half or full order. These ribs are seasoned with Foster’s rub, oven-roasted, and then grilled. They are finished with scratch lilikoi BBQ sauce. This comes with a choice of one side.

Blackened Shrimp Cobb Salad
This salad consists of fresh mixed greens that are topped with cucumbers, Maui onions, cherry tomatoes, a hard-boiled egg, gorgonzola crumbles, blackened shrimp, candied bacon, and Cajun croutons. It includes your choice of dressing.

Lilikoi Chesecake
This scratch-made no-bake cheesecake has a graham cracker crust. It has a lilikoi topping and is finished with whipped cream and strawberries.

Order a drink to pair with your meal. There is a long list of signature cocktails, beer, cider, hard seltzer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks.

If you are bringing kids with you, there is a great kids’ menu. The choices include flatbread pizza, mac and cheese, chicken tenders, cheeseburger, and grilled chicken breast. There is one price for children 12 years and younger and a higher price for kids 13 years and over. Both prices are reasonable.
