Located near the center of Maui, in Kula, Hawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm & Distillery offers tasty food and carefully crafted spirits in a gorgeous setting. Perched on the slopes of Haleakala, this 80-acre farm is packed with impossibly green, lush foliage and offers breathtaking panoramic views from all sides.
This working farm and distillery prides itself of being sustainable, organic, and eco-friendly. Everything here is grown without pesticides, GMOs, and synthetic fertilizers, and their spirits are produced using a variety of sustainable practices, including solar energy. The main drawing point here is the distillery. The company produces a variety of liquors here, divided into several brands. Ocean is their organic vodka brand, while Kula is a line of organic rum, and FY is their organic gin brand. Additionally, they produce Brum, a limited-release bourbon-barrel-aged rum.
Visitors can enjoy a personalized, guided tasting experience, offered every hour on most afternoons. This includes a tour of the farm and distillery, as well as a tasting. During the tour, guests will learn about the process and artistry involved with crafting the farm’s signature organic spirits, and what to look for and expect from different types of liquor. Afterwards, at a chic outdoor tasting area, participants will be able to taste each of the distillery’s five core spirits.
However, there is more than just alcohol to enjoy here. A store sells bottles of spirits, as well as a wide range of branded merchandise, such as drinking glasses, bar mats, hats, t-shirts, and hoodies.
At the on-site café, guests can enjoy a fresh and eclectic menu offering several appetizers, pizzas, and desserts, as well as an extensive cocktail menu featuring house-made spirits. For an appetizer, we recommend the ocean poke nachos. For this dish, crunchy chips are topped with fresh poke, tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro, unagi sauce, and furikake to create a balanced and flavor-packed bite. We also loved the mac nut pesto pizza, which features mac nut pesto, tomatoes, artichokes, and cheese. For dessert, you can’t go wrong with the churros, which are topped with toasted coconut rum and served with caramel dipping sauce. When it comes to drinks, there are tons of unique and delicious options. However, we especially enjoyed the sweet spiciness of the green harvest, a vodka-based cocktail, and the refreshing FY lavender lemonade, a perfect blend of organic gin, fresh lemonade, and lavender.
Whether you’re looking for great drinks, interesting food, or gorgeous views, Hawaii Sea Spirits has something for you. It’s a great place for a quick stop, but it’s also easy to spend an afternoon here. Be sure to bring your camera and get some photos of the beautiful scenery between bites or sips and enjoy your day on the farm.
-While this is a working distillery, children are welcome, and the site is very kid-friendly. There are lots of open fields and green space, which are great places to let the littles play and run off some energy. Children are also welcome in the gift shop and restaurant.
-If you’d like to add on an extra experience to your tour and tasting, consider adding on a Brum tasting. This limited-edition rum is aged in whiskey barrels, giving it a complex and unique flavor. It can be added to your tasting for a small additional fee.
-Love the spirits here, but don’t have a way to get them home? Never fear. The distillery is able to ship to several U.S. states, so you can have your bottles sent right to your home.
