The background of Coconut Information Farm and Cooking Class is the tale of how a hobby became a job and then eventually a farm. It all began 15 years ago when the owners wanted to move towards eating more locally grown food and swore off imported products. The impetus for the coconut farm was born when the owners wanted to find the freshest coconut trees on the island and discovered a lack of education on the matter.

Through this process, it was discovered that even lifelong Maui residents didn’t realize the immense benefits of coconut as a food source, how to grow them or how to prepare them. Even more, locals had never tasted homemade coconut milk or real coconut curry or sipped true pina colada. It was this discovery that led to the first pop-up class in 2011. Participants were so eager to learn about coconuts and how they could be used, that now decades later, Coconut Information Farm is a source for many— not only locally but globally— to learn about coconuts.

In addition to the fun in-person classes and farm tours offered at Coconut Information Farm, participants can also learn to cook with the greatest plant on earth via the farm’s online, 15-part Masterclass. Topics covered throughout the class begin with the lifecycle of the coconut tree and include how to prepare coconut noodles and coconut milk. All classes include tips, tricks, and recipes that make incorporating coconuts into a meal seamlessly. Topics from selecting to opening and then cooking coconuts are covered for participants of all ages.
