Sometimes bad press and poor reviews inspire a restaurant to review, revamp, and revise. Colleen’s at the Cannery is such a place.

2021 was the year things came to a head. The restaurant was getting negative reviews about horrid, rude service, mediocre food, and inept management. It was also the year the health department shut it down due to rodent infestation.

But that was then. Today, Colleen’s at the Cannery has resolved the health issue, hired friendly, attentive staff, and is once more the go-to spot for locals and tourists.

Colleen’s at the Cannery occupies the old pineapple cannery in Haiku, Maui. The floor plan is open with tables and booths and a vaulted ceiling. Whirling overhead fans keep diners comfortable, and the array of front windows and lights brightens the room.

But it’s the hearty portions and delicious comfort food that keep locals and visitors satisfied. Colleen’s serves breakfast starting at the crack of dawn and lunch and dinner. They also have a happy hour with food and beverage discounts.

We’ll begin with some of their classics, starting with breakfast:

Cannery Breakfast
This scrumptious, hearty meal is loaded and comes with two eggs any style, roasted potatoes, toast, and coffee. Toast choices are wheat, sourdough, rye, and English muffin. You may add bacon, ham, Portuguese sausage for an additional cost.

Pancakes
These flapjacks are giant! Options are the short stack (2 pancakes) or a single pancake. You can add blueberries and bananas for an extra cost, and many raved about their blueberry pancakes!

Organic Tofu Vegetable Wrap
This breakfast wrap is perfect for vegetarians and vegans. The flour tortilla wrap is filled with seared tofu, market vegetables, and potatoes.

Espresso Drinks
Yes, they serve regular coffee, but try one of their lattes, cappuccinos, or mochas if you need something with a little more jolt.

Next comes lunch! Here are some favorites.

Burgers
They offer an assortment of options, and all patties use hormone-free beef from the Maui Cattle Company. They also only use locally sourced Maui tomatoes, lettuce, and onions to top that burger. Fries are extra, but several reviewers commented that they’re the best on Maui.

Salads
These garden delights feature house-made dressings made with canola and olive oil. You may select the Traditional Caesar Salad, Kale Caesar Salad, Roasted Beet Salad, Organic Spinach Salad, and House Salad. You may add grilled chicken, Mahi Mahi, Ono, or the catch of the day.

Last but not least are the dinner options

You’ll find many lunch items included at dinner, so we’ll focus on another popular choice: pizza. All pizzas come with the selection of being crafted with gluten-free crust for an extra cost.

New Artisan Pizza
Choices are Mushroom Truffle, The Carnivale, Trench Town, and Pear & Gorgonzola.

Specialty Pizzas
They offer twelve options but here are a few to give you an idea. Meat Me in Haiku has pomodoro sauce, pepperoni, Italian Sausage, house-made meatballs, ham, extra mozzarella. The Virtual Garden (that they nicknamed, The Virtually Vegan) has pomodoro sauce, artichoke hearts, tomato, spinach, mushroom, garlic, onion, and mozzarella.

If you’re craving good-tasting comfort food that’s reasonably priced, we feel you can’t go wrong trying Colleen’s at the Cannery.
