For truly authentic Mexican food served with a smile, treat yourself to a trip over to Amigo’s Authentic Mexican restaurant in Kahului. Set in the tiny Akuku Center on Dairy Road, this cozy taco shop puts their focus on serving up delightful meals of a lifetime. They go all out in using traditional recipes to build bold flavors in every bite. Their food promises to stick to your ribs and leave you feeling ready for a nap by the time you’re finished.

If you can only come in once, make it on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. On those days, they offer their ever-popular Birria Taco plate special. The ultra-crisp tacos with their shredded beef filling never fail to delight. But it’s the flavorful consommé for dipping that’ll leave your eyes watering in sheer gratitude. Although those tacos are truly remarkable, all their breakfast, lunch, and dinner fare leaves their patrons wholly impressed.

While their focus might remain on perfecting their food, they don’t skimp when it comes to quality service. Their friendly manner creates a truly chill vibe in their eatery, making it a great place to kick back and relax. The TVs all around keep you entertained, too, while the kitchen crew works hard to make all your selections to order.

The servers remain super busy most of the day, however, so make sure to put in your requests when they make it to your table. Otherwise, you might up end waiting longer than you’d like for extra salsa, hot sauce, and the like.

Swing by for a taste of the:

Huevos ala Mexicanas
The Huevos ala Mexicanas are always a great way to start your day off right. To create this breakfast favorite, they scramble two eggs with sauteed tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos. Then, they put it all on the plate with rice and beans. Corn or flour tortillas come alongside, so you can wrap it all up if you so desire.

Shrimp Ceviche Bowl
If you want to whet your appetite with bright, crisp flavors, go with the Shrimp Ceviche Bowl. Available in small and large sizes, this popular dish features chopped shrimp, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, and cilantro. The whole lot gets soaked in lime juice until the shrimp is perfectly cooked by the acids. After that, avocado slices land right on top before serving.

California Burrito
Whenever you arrive with a big appetite, set your sights on the California Burrito. To build your burrito, they wrap steak, cheese, potatoes, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream in a huge tortilla. After that, they add rice and beans on the side to bring all the flavors together. Want to add even more flavor? Make it wet to get enchilada sauce and cheese poured over the burrito.

Although you’ll undoubtedly end up stuffed by the time you finish your entrée, stick around for a bit and let your belly settle, so you can have dessert, too. You’ll need to choose between their Fried Ice Cream and Mexican Flan, however, which is a lot harder than it might sound. You could get both, of course, but they’re best savored all on their own.
