Located in Kihei on Maui’s sunny southwest shore, Lava Rock Bar & Grill is a relative newcomer on the dining and nightlife scene, but it’s quickly made a name for itself. A huge and varied menu, down-to-earth ambiance, and friendly and helpful waitstaff make Lava Rock Bar & Grill the place to be for locals and tourists alike.
Featuring two massive quad-screen 110” displays and 16 (yes, you read that right) 55” screens, Lava Rock is an excellent environment for taking in a game—and for quenching your thirst while you do so thanks to its impressive Lava Rock Beer Tower with 16 different beers on tap. Feel like getting in on the action instead of just watching it? Head to the billiards room for a free game or two.
While a “bar and grill” may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of breakfast, Lava Rock is THE best place around to start your day. In addition to hearty favorites like Huevos Rancheros, Eggs Benedict, and the loaded Breakfast Burrito, you’ll also find healthy options, like the flavorful and super-fresh Papaya Parfait. And did we happen to mention the $2 mimosas every day until 2 pm with a food purchase?
And when we say the menu is “huge and varied,” we mean it. The only downside? Deciding what to order from such an extensive selection of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, street tacos, soups and salads, local favorites, steaks, entrées, and desserts.
A few of our favorite menu favorites included the following:
Lava Fries
We challenge you to find crispier, crunchier fries than the ones at Lava Rock. The homemade chimichurri sauce and chimichurri aioli take this appetizer to new levels of deliciousness.
The Island Fish Special
Seasoned with fresh herbs and spices and topped with mango salsa, Lava Rock’s “catch of the day” just might be the best piece of fish you’ll have during your stay in Hawaii—and that’s saying a lot!
Tropical BBQ Ribs
Marinated for 24 hours before being slow-smoked and finished on the grill, these succulent ribs feature Lava Rock’s “secret seasoning” and a delectable guava BBQ glaze.
The Lava Rock Steak
Served sizzling on a hot volcanic stone, this perfectly seasoned steak is more than a meal; it’s an experience.
Watermelon Mint Cocktail
The ultimate refreshing libation. Sipping this cocktail while taking in the sunset is a truly magical moment.
The Lava Mary
If you fancy a heartier drink, this impressive Bloody Mary topped with freshly cooked bacon and shrimp delivers—and then some.
Parting words of advice? Just don’t wait until your last day in Hawaii to pay a visit to the Lava Rock Bar & Grill. If you do, you’ll miss out on the chance to enjoy a second (or third!) meal at this Kihei hotspot.
Insider Tips:
-The restaurant entrance is located on the second floor and can be tricky to find. Walk around the building (just past the tattoo parlor) and head upstairs.
-Make sure to check the website for themed club nights, such as Latin Thursdays and Wednesday Night Karaoke.
-While Lava Rock does welcome walk-ins, we recommend making a reservation if you want to secure a prime spot on the deck.
