Are you looking for an adventure across the waters of Hawaii? Do you prefer going your own way, charting your own course? If so, then Kona Boat Rentals might be the very company you’ve been looking for!

You’ll find Kona Boat Rentals operating out of a dock business in a harbor at the end of Kealakeha Parkway. This company has been in operation since 2001 and prides itself on serving more than 10,000 customers, helping each and every one of them find an exciting way to experience Hawaii’s coastal waters.

What’s different about Kona Boat Rentals than other similar Hawaii boating companies is that their primary business is renting motorboats. Most other boating companies in this part of Hawaii either specialize in boat tours, such as snorkeling and whale-watching tours or rent small, non-motorized boats like kayaks and canoes. In contrast, Kona Boat Rentals offers big motorized, deep V-hulled boats for guests to rent and enjoy.

You can rent boats from Kona Boat Rentals either for the half-day or for the full day.  While they have multiple boats and upgrade boat options, all of their boats are 21-foot Triumphs that have earned the nickname of “The World’s Toughest Boat.” Certainly, these models offer a nice mix of comfort and performance with their ability to comfortably sit up to six adults across their cushioned seats. These boats are also well-known for being safe and easy for even beginner boaters to operate. Boats also come with a complete safety package that has been Coastal Guard inspected and approved. This includes an anchor package, mooring, dock lines, and fenders.

Every boat rental through Kona Boat Rentals includes all the basic equipment you need to safely go out and enjoy the coastal waters just off the Big Island. This means full GPS functionality with coastal charts, easy-to-navigate directions to some of the most popular spots, and snorkeling equipment for your group. There are also three different boat upgrade options, with the top line offering a higher-powered outboard, outriggers, and specialty shade (though all three boat styles do feature shade).

While these boats do come with all you need to enjoy a fun day out snorkeling, whale watching, or otherwise cruising the coastline, those interested in fishing may want to ask about the fishing gear upgrade package. This package includes all you need to enjoy catching and reeling in some outstanding Hawaiian fish, meaning Penn rods and reels, fighting belts, leader gloves, fish finder, and more. Plus, you’ll have first-rate fishing tips from the professionals themselves!

You don’t need a license to rent from Kona Boat Rentals, though they will probably ask about boating experience. All drivers will also go through a thorough orientation on safety, regulation, and general equipment operation before they depart.

If you’re uncertain about driving the boat or having someone in your party drive the boat, then there is the option to hire a captain through Kona Boat Rentals. Just note that you will need to give the rental company at least 48 hours’ notice if you want to go this route in order to give them time to arrange a proper boating captain for your outing.

Insider Tips:
-Want to hire more of a guide than a boating captain? Kona Boat Rentals also offers that option with snorkeling, whale-watching, and fishing guides. But, just as with their captain policy, you will need to give the company at least 48 hours to arrange the right individual to accompany your group out on the water.
-Note that the listed price for their boat rentals is only for the boats and not for the fuel. Fuel costs can get pretty expensive so if prices overall are a concern, be sure to lock in gas prices with the company before you leave and ask them about estimates for where you’re looking to go. Staying closer to the shoreline of the Big Island and going to nearby hot spots is a great way to keep costs low while still enjoying a fabulous boating adventure.
