Sweet E’s Café is the place to go for delightfully decadent breakfast creations proudly served all day long. From their ever-popular French Toast to the Epic Breakfast Burrito, every last item promises to kick your day into high gear at the very first bite. They have a lunchtime menu, too, giving you even more homemade dishes to consider every day after 11 am.

No matter what you order, you can count on enjoying the perfect blend of flavors in every last morsel. Café owner, Ethel Mathews, handcrafted every recipe on the menu, after all, as a true labor of love. She created her family-run eatery out of a desire to support the happiness and well-being of the community through amazing culinary creations.

She hit the ball out of the park, too, from the very start. Although it just opened its doors in 2011, the café has won countless awards for its quality breakfast fare. In honor of Ethel’s contributions to the community, she’s also been featured in commercials and on the cover of Hawaii Business Magazine.

So, it’s no wonder that their dining room stays full to the brim with eager patrons from open to close. But that’s actually a plus, as the warm din of friendly chatter creates a homey feel from the very second you walk through the doors. The cozy-chic aesthetic adds to the welcoming atmosphere, making it a great place to stop by for a meal in between all your Honolulu adventures.

Since they’re so busy all the time, you can expect a bit of a wait before a table opens up. They make it easy to do so with their sign-up sheet set right up front. Just walk through the front doors, put your name and number on the list, and then go back outside to wait it out. They have a few benches outside to sit on if you prefer – or you can just chill in your car until it’s go-time.

Their top menu items include:

Enchanting French Toast
A definite fan favorite, the Enchanting French Toast will undoubtedly have you singing its praises all around town. They make this sweet treat by dipping three thick slices of Hawaiian Sweet Bread in batter, and then frying them until golden brown. Once they’re done, each one gets sprinkled with powdered sugar plus you can add fruit over top for an extra charge. Want them stuffed? They can do that, too.

Extreme Mess
When it comes to the Extreme Mess, the name says it all. All the best breakfast ingredients come together to get scrambled to perfection, starting with three extra large eggs, bacon, sausage, and ham. As if that’s not enough, the chef also throws in onions, peppers, scallions, and hash browns before topping it all in plenty of cheddar cheese.

BBQ Bacon Chicken Flatbread Pizza
Only available at lunchtime, the BBQ Bacon Chicken Flatbread Pizza never fails to impress with its rich, bold flavor profile. To create this dish, the chef swipes BBQ sauce all over fresh flatbread. Then, they pile on the chicken breast, bacon, onions, and mozzarella cheese. Once it’s assembled, the pizza goes into the oven until hot, bubbly, and perfectly golden brown.

Since they’re a breakfast restaurant through and through, there aren’t any desserts on the menu. But if you’re craving sweets, you cannot go wrong with their scrumptious breakfast items available ala carte. Want maple syrup goodness in every bite? Just order up a single Buttermilk Pancake. If you prefer a smorgasbord of sweet flavors instead, then treat yourself to the Stuffy Blueberry and Cream Cheese French Toast, for sure. You can even keep it simple with half of the papaya or a bowl of fruit.

Insider Tips:
-Read the menu carefully before ordering your selections. What you see is what you get. They do not allow any substitutions.
-They do not take reservations, so prepare for a wait when you arrive.
-Bring change just in case you need to park in the metered spots along the street.
-Since they make everything fresh each day, it’s possible they’ll run out of your favorite items. So, it’s best to keep a backup selection in mind just in case.
