Kalapaki Joe’s Poipu

Discover the Best Happy Hour on Kauai at Kalapaki Joe’s in Poipu
The Bottom Line:

Kalapaki Joe’s more than earns its unofficial title as Kauai’s “Best Happy Hour.”  In addition to offering phenomenal drink and food deals, this popular, family run sports bar is also a great spot to watch a game while noshing on fresh island food like island fish tacos and poke.

- The HawaiianIslands.com Local Expert Team

Located on Kauai’s south side in the Kukui Grove Center, Kalapaki Joe’s is hailed as the “Westernmost Sports Bar in the US.” Indeed, this Hawaiian hotspot has more than its fair share of large-screen TVs — making it the perfect place to take in the big game. The staff is also super-friendly and were happy to put on the game we wanted to see.

Craving a cold one while you cheer on your favorite team? With more than 50 beers, Kalapaki Joe’s lays claim to the island’s largest selection of brews.

But this restaurant is much more than just a sports bar. You’ll also love its amazing happy hour, extensive menu (and huge portions!), live music, and laid-back, open-air vibe. And then there’s the Happy Hour. Every day, enjoy amazing deals on drafts, house wine, selected cocktails, appetizers, wings, fish tacos, and shrimp tempura.

When we say Kalapaki Joe’s has something for everyone, we mean it. In addition to a huge selection of drinks, breakfast items (served on weekends), appetizers, salads and burgers, and tacos and entrees, Kalapaki Joe’s also has a variety of meat-free choices, including sriracha-seasoned Wildman Cauliflower, Edamame Soy Beans, and Vegetable Egg Rolls.

Speaking of Kalapaki Joe’s extensive menu, some of our favorite items were:

Nobu Poke Nachos
There’s nachos, and then there’s Kalapaki Joe’s Nobu Poke Nachos, AKA “The Ultimate.”

The Bananas Foster Pancakes
If you’re in the mood for a deliciously decadent breakfast, look no further than this brown butter and fresh banana bonanza. Consider yourself warned: Go hungry.

The Original Ahi Tacos
You’ll enjoy every flavorful bit of this island specialty featuring seared fresh ahi, flashed sesame slaw, pico de gallo, and chipotle aioli.

The Ahi Salad
Looking for something on the lighter side but still craving all of the flavors for which Hawaiian cuisine is known? The Ahi Poke Crunch Salad delivers — and then some — thanks to fresh raw ahi, mixed lettuce greens, Asian slaw, crispy tortillas, succulent avocado, seasonal vegetables, Oriental vinaigrette, and furikake. And did someone say wasabi cream?

The Mango Margarita
You haven’t lived until you’ve sipped this festive on-the-rocks concoction. And as with all the drinks at Kalapaki Joe’s, they’re anything but stingy with the alcohol. On that note, the drinks here are huge — we’re talking goblets!

Even though this restaurant is a sports bar, it’s family-friendly — so bring the kids for a fun day or night on the town.

As if all of this isn’t enough reason to put Kalapaki Joe’s on your must-do list, it also boasts distant views of Brenneke’s beach. We made a night of it after our server gave us the scoop on the best place to take in the sunset over Poipu Beach.
