Green World Coffee Farm may be small, but it produces plenty of beans for its legendary coffee. With 7 acres and more than 3,000 arabica coffee trees, the fragrant aroma hits you as soon as you enter the property.

Green World Coffee Farm is owned by Howard Green. An entrepreneur who established the North Shore Marketplace more than four decades ago. It originally started as a congregation place for local merchants and artisans to sell their wares. Now it has evolved into everything from restaurants to retail stores. In 2008, he started the farm. Today, his daughter, Maile, runs the land, and his wife, Kohei, takes care of the retail shop.

This coffee farm uses beans from its trees to make its coffee creations. However, the staff isn’t afraid to branch out for the sake of a better product. They not only grow, process, and roast coffee on their own processes, but they might purchase beans from other coffee farms to experiment with different flavors.

By roasting the unprocessed beans on their own premises, the staff can test new combinations and control how the beans are blended together. Everything is fresh at the farm. If you order a cup, you’re guaranteed that the beans were roasted that very day. The green beans from other farmers may have been grown on Waialua (on the North Shore) but may also come from the islands of Maui, Kauai, or Molokai.

The gift shop is another unique place to stop. It features far more than a few bags of Green World Coffee Farm coffee and some t-shirts. This is a fun retail experience for coffee lovers to browse because it’s stocked with coffees from all over the world. If you’re looking for organic coffees, look for the certified label on two of their packages. (The Maui Kine and Waimea blend both meet all official criteria.)

If you can’t decide which one to choose, ask for a sample of coffee or tea. To really get the most from every sip, you can ask for a chocolate sample to go along with it! If you purchase whole beans from the store, make sure to grind them properly to get the best flavor from each one.

The general rule is that if you’re going to steep the coffee for a while, you’re going to need a coarser grind. So cold brew, which typically sits for a good 16 hours, will need to be ground at a very different consistency than Turkish coffee. This will need to be exceptionally fine to produce a tasty drink.

The other main attraction of Green World Coffee Farm is the invitation to explore. Customers are free to wander the grounds at their own pace and learn. Such as, how coffee is grown, how it’s processed, and how different elements affect the final flavor. Or you can ask one of the staff members to show you around. You can also ask the friendly baristas at the counter more about how the beans are selected, harvested, and roasted to bring out the best in each one.

There’s a lot to know about the coffee world. Fortunately, this small business on the North Shore is designed to help you learn all about it. With incredible scenery and a full menu of coffee drinks and teas, this is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for an authentic, full-flavored cup.
