During that talk, the instructors let you know what to expect out on the water and how to respond if things go awry.

After that, you’ll hit the water and start learning how to get up on the board and ride the waves. As you improve, your instructor will push you to go bigger while ensuring that you stay safe on your surf adventures.

Insider Tips:
-Plan to wear a well-fitting one-piece bathing suit or board shorts to your lessons. Also, bring a towel, bottled water, and a snack for after your lesson.
-Even on cloudy days, the sun can cause serious burns, so always wear SPF 50+ sunscreen while out on the water. Reapply every two hours at least to enjoy its full protection all throughout your day.
-Sunglasses are a must as well, especially on bright, sunny days. The reflections off the water can leave you unable to see clearly, potentially causing collisions with other water sports enthusiasts.
-Try to time your lessons early in the morning to avoid the crowds. If you’re a beginner, aim for periods of low tide as well.
