We’re just going to come right out and say it. It doesn’t get more beautiful than this. Poipu Bay Golf Course offers some of the most stunning ocean views we’ve ever seen. Adjacent to the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, the club combines a challenging course with state-of-the-art technology and unbelievable scenery to create a bona fide golfer’s paradise on Kauai’s South Shore.
Poipu Bay, a championship course, was home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994-2006. As you travel the course, imagine you’re following in the footsteps of past PGA greats. It remains a popular golf destination for professionals, amateurs, and vacationers alike.
Poipu Bay is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in America, and it’s easy to see why. The 18-hole course sits more than eight stories above the sparkling Pacific Ocean. The lush green grass contrasts brilliantly with the crystal-clear ocean and blue sky. In particular, the 16th hole, set against the ocean and sky, is widely thought to be one of the most beautiful holes in all of golf.
Wildlife abounds. If you look closely, you may see Hawaiian monk seals, green sea turtles and humpback whales in the ocean below. Above, notice the state bird of Hawaii, the Nene Goose. Native to Hawaii, the islands are the only place in the world you can see these endangered birds.
The course is a par 72, comprised of over 7,000 yards. Around it, you may notice ancient stone walls, and remnants of heiau, or Hawaiian places of worship. Before you set out on the course, you can warm up at the driving range, or schedule a private lesson with one of the club’s pros. When you’re ready, set out in luxurious style. Each tee time reservation includes a cart, bottled water, and chilled towels. The golf carts all feature a satellite navigation system that provides you with your exact distance to the hole, as well as precise pin placement.
There are many playing options to meet the needs of every kind of golfer. In addition to playing a traditional 18-hole round, the club offers several playing variations. Here are a few:
Practice and Play
For those just wanting to get a taste of what it’s like to play on this course, this is a great option. Start by warming up on the driving range, and then play holes 1-3.
Seven Hole Stretch
Short on time but still want to squeeze in a bit of golf? This package allows you to play only holes 1-7 and offers a variety of tee times.
The Back Nine
This one’s pretty self-explanatory. If you’re up for a solid nine-hole round, you can play the beautiful back nine holes of the course.
Ocean Eleven
We’ve already told you that the 16th hole is gorgeous, but many other holes are also set against that stunning ocean backdrop. Get a chance to see them with this unique package that allows you to play holes 8-18. (See what they did with the name, there? We love the play on words.)
Packages all include a golf cart rental. The pro shop also offers club and shoe rentals.
