LightWave Pottery is a unique artisan shop tucked in the back neighborhood of Kapaa on the island of Kauai. Beautiful works of pottery greet you as you enter and creates an uplifting experience you’ll want to take home with you.

Of course, LightWave Pottery isn’t just a shop. Yes, you can browse the fantastic inventory here and make purchases, but this location was always foremost artist Dean McRaine’s studio. The place in which he works and creates the gorgeous renditions of pottery that have so fascinated people from around the world.  If you are wanting to make purchases at this pottery studio, you can find gems such as: intricately designed mugs to enjoy your morning coffee, sea turtles to remind you of the Hawaiian sea life, and vases to help add more flavorful decor to your rooms.

An incredible and unforgettable experience, whenever you visit LightWave Pottery, you have a chance to see the potter in action. If not in action, then McRaine or one of his assistants are often more than happy to show visitors the studio and his unique way or process of creating pottery works of art.

McRaine is a self-taught potter who has been involved in the art and developing glazes for over 35 years. About 15 years ago, he developed a specific passion for developing vivid colors and exquisite patterns with his clay work. Today, much of his pottery features these aspects, and you will often see pieces inspired by the vivid tropical fauna and flora native to Kauai.

Another unique aspect of McKaine’s work is that is dedicated to a reduce, reuse, recycle philosophy. For example, the kiln is fired with used restaurant oil so as McRaine can take something that would be otherwise thrown away and create a use for it. It wasn’t easy, but this potter has mastered the oil firing process with this subpar oil.

All of McRaine’s pottery fired at the studio is likewise available for sale at the LightWave Pottery studio. You can browse his extensive inventory in person and purchase on-site to be taken home with you day-of or shipped professionally to your home through LightWave Pottery.
