Located in Lihue and across the street from Kauai Community College in the Puhi Plaza Village, Hanalima Baking Co. is a popular local bakery. This place is renowned offers freshly baked bread as well as great to-go items, including breakfast and lunch sandwiches.

In fact, when we say popular, we mean that this just might be the most popular morning spot in Lihue. This bakery is open only on the weekdays and closes at 1 p.m. Every morning, they will put out an array of baked menu items, including sweet and savory rolls that are priced at just under $3 before tax. These rolls run out quickly, sometimes within just a few short hours (they open weekdays at 6 a.m.) thanks in part both to their price and in part to their incredibly delicious flavors.

If you are looking to place a large order of baked goods, call the bakery ahead of time and as early as possible. In addition to their very popular breakfast rolls, Hanalima Baking Company also bakes custom cakes, burgers, and plate lunches which consist of a scoop of rice, a scoop of homemade mac salad, and a choice of entree.

A few of the most popular menu items here include:

Spicy Crab Roll
This bread roll comes packed with crab and cheese mixed with mustard and mayonnaise sauce.

Portuguese Sausage Roll
Another bread roll menu item, the Portuguese Sausage Roll boasts minced meat that is spread throughout the roll’s baked layers. This nicely evens out the flavor and offers a nice seasoned kick with each bite.

Loco Moco
This isn’t a baked good, but it is a fantastic breakfast dish. The loco moco is a popular Hawaiian dish that combines rice, hamburger, fried egg, and gravy. The Hanalima Baking Co. really does this dish right and is a great choice for those interested in trying out more local flavors.

Insider Tips:
-The breakfast rolls at Hanalima Baking Co. are delicious, and they are priced at a fantastic rate. However, these rolls do tend to be more on the bread-side; meaning if you are expecting something more like a dim sum pork roll which traditionally boasts a thin layer of dough and a very heavy meat-based interior, you may be disappointed with the Hanalima Bakery Company rolls. But if you’re looking for something filling with a kick of flavor, then this is a perfect choice.
-The savory rolls on the Hanalima Bakery Company menu are their most popular items. While they do serve classic sandwiches, such as a club sandwich, they aren’t their specialty and you might find yourself disappointed.
-This location is located within ten minutes of the Lihue airport. So if you’re looking for something you can pick up fast (all the rolls are baked and available for grab-and-go), choose Hanalima Baking Company.
