The Shops at Wailea is the place to go when you want to gear up for the beach, buy fun souvenirs, or just window shop to your heart’s content. Gucci, Tiffany & Co, Louis Vuitton, and many other high-end retailers lay claim to most of the space across this South Maui outdoor shopping mall. You can even shop for luxury foods at the gourmet market, getting all the finest fare for your picnics in paradise.

Balancing things out are the ABC Stores, gift shops, and the like, which allow you to round out your purchases without breaking the bank. As you explore each shop, you’re bound to find all the best souvenirs imaginable, ranging from ukuleles and sunglasses to t-shirts and knickknacks. You can even gear up for oceanfront fun at the many surf shops before jetting over to the nearby Wailea Beach.

As you explore all the shops onsite, you’re bound to work up quite an appetite. Thankfully, you have many excellent restaurants, coffeeshops, and ice cream shops to consider. You may need to call ahead for reservations at the sit-down restaurants, especially when the mall looks particularly busy.

If you didn’t have a chance to book a table, just stop by your restaurant of choice when you arrive to put your name on the list. Many eateries will happily give you a call or text when your table opens up. So, you can just shop around in the meantime, and then swing by for your meal and drinks when it’s ready.

You’re also welcome to bring a picnic lunch plus pick up a few extra goods at the gourmet market. And then, settle down for a relaxing meal in the grassy strip along Wailea Alanui Drive. The nearby trees have lanterns hanging in them, creating a magical dining experience. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see people playing on the Wailea Blue Golf Course across the street while you fill up on delicious island fare.

No matter how you prefer to shop, don’t miss the chance to gaze upon all the beautiful artwork you come across. Many of the shops display stunning works of art made by local artists, adding even more value to their offerings. If you’d like to know who made each piece, just ask and they’ll surely let you know about the creator.

For an even more in-depth art experience, go on over to the Lahaina Galleries to browse all their works. Their 3,000-foot gallery features stunning works from local and international artists, many of which you can purchase and have shipped home. On Wednesday nights, they have guest artists fill up the gallery with their latest pieces and present them to the public.

Other free community events land at this mall on the regular, including the beloved Polynesian Show with Hawaiian hula performances and other gorgeous dances. Want to learn how to hula with the best of them? Look for Papa Hula at the Shops for a complimentary dance workshop to remember.

As you explore all the onsite events, you might also get a chance to catch live demonstrations on how to husk coconuts, make leis, and weave coconut fronds. Local artisans love to share their craft with the public and teach everyone how to bring a little bit more magic into the world.

The events change up on a monthly basis, so be sure to check the calendar to see what’s coming up. With that move, you can time your visit to the mall at just the right time to see all the best performances and more.
