Kona Coffee & Tea Cafe serves coffee locally grown on their single-estate farm located on the slopes of Hualalai, in Kona Hawaii. You can visit the Kona Coffee & Tea Cafe on Kailua-Kona, in the Kona Coast Shopping Center. The charming cafe is currently open for limited seating and takeout with the operating hours of 6 am through 4 pm. Happy Hour takes place daily from 3:00 pm to 4:00.

The journey that started Kona Coffee & Tea began with a single coffee crop, planted in the rich volcanic soil of Hualalai, sprouting thanks to the regular rainfall, afternoon clouds, and sunny mornings. Noted as the crown of the “Kona Coffee Belt,” the Kona Farm provides ideal growing conditions for a variety of coffees including the Arabic Typica variety that demands an elevation of 2,000 feet to grow. The single-estate term that defines the Kona Farm means that each coffee bean originates on the farm.

Three years after the planting process, a beautiful, white flower emerges between January and May. These delicate blooms are known as “Kona snow.” With time, the snow vanishes, and a bright green cherry develops, which houses the precious coffee bean. Summer ripens this green cherry to rich red color, then the fruits are picked by hand.

The next step of the process that brings the coffee bean from the Kona Farm to the Kona Coffee & Tea Cafe takes place ten minutes down the road from the farm at the mill. The ripe cherry is hulled, polished, cleaned, and graded in the company’s wet and dry mill. The milled and dried coffee beans are then roasted in small batches, which is a process that expertly transforms different grades of beans into the Kona coffee served at the cafe.

Consequently, because of the entire farming and production process being under one company, The Kona Coffee & Tea Cafe is one of the few cafes that can honestly say, “from their farm to your cup.” The Kona Coffee & Tea Cafe is family-owned and operated by the Bolton family. What began as a farm of mere 20 acres, today spans over 200 acres.
