Kailua Beach is one of Oahu’s most well-known beaches, well-loved by locals and visitors alike. Every year, tens of thousands of folks flock to Kailua Beach for the gorgeous fine white sand, the incomparable views of the Mokes off the coast, the excellent snorkeling off the sandbar, and the one-of-a-kind atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else.
Located on Oahu’s windward coast in the town of Kailua, Kailua Beach Park spans about three miles of coastline, backed by lovely residential neighborhoods. The beaches here are frequented by locals who head out to fish, run on the beach, catch a sunrise, or play with their dogs in the water. Kailua’s more upscale feel and chill vibe invite people from all walks of life to relax and enjoy the salt, sand, and sun.
Kailua is about 35 minutes from Waikiki, depending on traffic, but the drive up the coast is breathtaking. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.
You will find restrooms and showers in the main parking area; the bathrooms here tend to be fairly well-maintained and clean, but it is a public beach park, so conditions may vary. It can be a good idea to bring your own toilet paper along just in case. There are no lifeguards on duty here, so be aware of the waves and your own swimming ability before you jump in the water.

Snorkeling
Although there is some sea life to be seen close to shore, you’ll see even more if you venture out a bit toward the reefs and sandbars a bit further out.
Bodyboarding
During the summer when waves are up, bodyboarding is an option; waves don’t get huge, but they’re fun for relative beginners to catch a wave or two.
Sunbathing
Perhaps the most popular pastime on Kailua Beach is stretching out on the sand and catching a few rays.
The nearby Kalapawai Market offers an excellent stop for snacks, sandwiches, and espresso drinks. You’ll also find plenty of great local restaurants within walking distance from the beach.
