Rare is it that you will find a farm stand right on the main road that is also connected to the land upon which they grow their food. But that is exactly the beauty of Kula Country Farms. Kula Country Farms is a cute little farm and farm stand that offers both ready-to-go packaged foods and when in season, you pick produce.

You will find Kula in Upcountry Maui just north of Keokea on Highway 37 after the split with Highway 377 and just before the Harold W. Rice Memorial Park. It is impossible to miss. You will see two long buildings, one a dark shade of green, and a fence line with giant fruits pained on massive pieces of wood. The farm stand sits atop a bit of a ridge, with a backdrop that sweeps down into the ocean. This just might be the most picturesque farm stand you will ever visit.

Of course, the farm stand is probably not quite the right word. Kula Country Farms operates something that looks more like its own grocery market. Inside the covered farm stand, you will find a rich array of farm-fresh produce as well as honey, jams, baked goods, and specially sourced crafts. Most of what is sold at the Kula Country Farms’ farm stand comes from the farm itself. This includes honey produced from their hives and jams made from the fruits grown on site. What produce will be available will depend upon what is in season and so can vary depending upon when you visit. Selections include strawberries, blueberries, onions, squash, zucchini, and a variety of herbs.

The farm stand at Kula Country Farms is open all year round and has more to offer than just what’s for sale inside. There’s a large garden out back that includes a children’s garden and an area where everyone can interact with some of the farms’ animals.

Additionally, Kula Country Farms has some pretty exciting seasonal events that keep people coming back. The two biggest ones are their Strawberry U-Pick field and Pumpkin Patch.

The Strawberry U-Pick patch runs from February through June, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. During those times, visitors can grab a basket at the farm stand and enjoy picking as many or as few strawberries as they desire. Really. the strawberry fields are right next to the farm stand! New baskets can be grabbed as needed. Once you and your group are done with the picking, simply pay $5/pound for the fresh strawberries you’ve grabbed and you’re good to go!

The Pumpkin Patch operates throughout the entirety of October, from 9 am to 3:45 and is one of the most popular events among locals in Upcountry Maui. Of course, most people visiting Maui don’t come for fall activities, but if you happen to be here during this month, meandering the hundreds upon hundreds of Maui-grown pumpkins can make for a fun stop on your way to other adventures.

Insider Tips:
-Harold W. Rice Memorial Park, which is less than a block north of Kula Country Farms, has a bus stop. While there isn’t a whole lot else within walking distance of this spot, those really hankering on some fresh strawberries or other produce could use the bus to get here if they’re without a vehicle of their own.
-Remember, most of what is sold at the farm stand is what is grown on their farms. This means that if you are looking to buy fresh produce, then you want to go do it during popular harvest times. For Hawaii produce, April through October is going to be the months when you will see the most foods getting harvested, with October being the very busiest for farmers here.
