Safeway Lihue has everything you need to stock up on vacation food and other supplies. Come here whenever you arrive on the island, and you’ll find whatever you need.
The grocery department at Safeway Lihue has a full array of fresh produce, select meats, seafood, and shelf staples. Stock up on the essential ingredients for a few meals, and get a couple of fancy foods that you’d normally skip. You are on vacation, after all.
If you come when the bakery is open, make sure to stop by for a sweet treat. Grab a donut or danish for a little instant sweet, and also get a cake if you’re celebrating something. There are always birthday cakes and cakes that aren’t celebration-specific.
You’ll find everything needed to make a sandwich in the grocery section, but there’s also a good deli in the store. Grab a sandwich or other item to-go for a lunch that requires no work.
A few of our favorite items at Safeway Lihue include:
Tropical Fruit
There’s no shortage of fresh pineapples, coconuts, and bananas on the island, and they’re all some of the freshest you’ll ever get. Pick up your first one here, and then purchase the next at a farmstand after you’ve enjoyed the first fruit.
Donuts
Made fresh daily, all of the donuts in the bakery are worth getting. Limit yourself to a few favorites at most for a quick, tasty sugar rush.
Prepared Sandwich/Wrap
Perfect for lunch on the day you arrive, the deli has an assortment of premade sandwiches and wraps. Pick up a roast beef, turkey, or veggie sandwich that’ll give you a healthy meal after flying in. The prepared food will let you initially explore the island without having to worry about finding a decent restaurant for a midday meal.
Toiletries and Prescriptions
While not our favorite to get, this is one of our favorite places to stock up on essential toiletries when you first arrive. It’s also one of the most convenient pharmacies if you become ill or need a refill on regular medication.
While you can find food all over the island, Safeway Lihue provides a convenient way to stock up on essentials and maybe a few goodies. You’ll certainly save money if you get the ingredients to cook meals and/or a few to-go lunches here.
Insider Tip:
Want something specific written on a birthday cake? Call the bakery before you leave the mainland and let them know when you’re getting in. They’ll have the cake prepared when you arrive.
