Aloha Blue Charters - Friendly, Cost-Effective Charters for Fishing and Snorkeling on Maui
Local Expert's Rating:
4.5 / 5
The Bottom Line:

Aloha Blue isn't the biggest charter company out there, but they offer a solid selection of tours. Guests report exceptional service on their custom charters and snorkeling and whale-watching tours, but reviews are mixed when it comes to fishing charters.

Want to hit the water during your time in Maui? Chartering a boat on the islands is one type of adventure you aren’t likely to forget, and Aloha Blue makes it easy to bring your family or group along for the ride. Whether you’re into fishing, whale watching, or snorkeling, Aloha Blue has a vessel and an outing to fit your needs. They also offer highly competitive rates compared to some of the larger charter companies in Maui, making them a great option if you’re traveling on a budget.

Expect friendly, professional service from booking to the boat ride. Aloha Blue has a small fleet of very well-maintained vessels; visitors consistently report they were impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of their rides.

Some of Aloha Blue’s most popular charters include:

Molokini and Turtle Town Snorkel
If you’re dreaming of getting off the coast to do some once-in-a-lifetime snorkeling, Molokini is your best bet. This extinct volcano crater is now just a moon-shaped sliver of land off Maui’s coast, and it’s home to an incredible array of sea life. Aloha Blue’s charter takes you right up to the action. They also provide the snorkel gear you’ll need for the group, from kids to adults.

Humpback Whale Watching
If you happen to be visiting Maui between December 15 and April 15, you’ll be there for prime whale-watching season in Hawaii. Aloha Blue offers whale-watching charters that take you up close and personal with those gentle giants. All whale-watching tours are aboard the Hokua, an eco-friendly vessel that’s propelled by a jet engine instead of propellers (a safer choice for sea life).

Bottom Fishing Charters
Aloha Blue offers deep-sea fishing and bottom fishing charters, along with gear rentals and licenses necessary to fish in Hawaii. Some passengers reported that the crew wasn’t incredibly helpful for those who weren’t already avid fishers, so keep that in mind when booking your trip. There are other tour companies that offer a bit more hand-holding for those who aren’t familiar with fishing in the open ocean.

Aloha Blue is a fairly small company, and they’re open to accommodating custom charters, as well–so if you’re looking for a private boat ride for an intimate group (like a wedding party or another event), call them up and ask what they set up for your group. They can even coordinate catering for your group or party.

Location
Aloha Blue Charters is located in Wailuku, Maui, at Slip #37 at the Maalaea Boat Harbor. It’s just across Maalaea Bay from Kihei or about 15 minutes from Kahului, so you’ll find plenty of places to stop and grab breakfast or lunch before or after your adventure. You’ll find plenty of easily accessible parking in the harbor’s parking lot.

Insider Tips:
-After your charter, drive a few minutes up the Honoapiilani Highway to McGregor Point and Lighthouse for out-of-this-world coastal views.
-When in doubt, opt for an earlier morning tour and beat the crowds to the harbor!
