Located within the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort on the island of Kauai, the Crooked Surf offers diners a unique tiki bar experience. This resort bar is located just a few dozen feet from the ocean shores, offering those who come to dine and drink here a gorgeous place to enjoy delicious cocktails and appetizers.

To get to The Crooked Surf, simply follow Kuhio Highway northbound from Lihue. After passing over the bridge for Wailua River, you’ll take your third right onto Aleka Loop. Parking for The Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort and The Crooked Surf are both found here.

The Crooked Surf has a relaxed beachfront vibe with an open-air bar setting in a building with a grass-thatched roof and chairs made for lounging. Of course, grassy roofs don’t necessarily equate to extra casual. This resort bar does cater to a more upscale clientele but in a more laid-back environment. Think Tiki-Bar with class and energy.

Diners here can enjoy cocktails in more outdoor seats facing the ocean or those facing an inner garden. Or, for those who like sports, stay close to the bar to watch your favorite games on available high-def TVs. During the evenings, The Crooked Surf serves up an array of live music entertainment.

Despite being most well-known and liked for their cocktails, The Crooked Surf does have an exciting array of appetizers and light fare to enjoy and snack on. The prices here are fair for the quality and value you get from the food but, that said, they do trend higher than other nearby sandwich shops and similar places that serve Hawaiian and Americana grill and snack food.

Popular menu items at The Crooked Surf include:

Seared Ahi Tuna BLT
After chomping down on this sandwich, you might start to wonder why more seafood restaurants don’t also boast this delicious twist on the classic. The Crooked Surf’s Seared Ahi Tuna BLT sandwich comes with the thick-cut bacon, juicy tomato, and crunchy lettuce expected of a traditional BLT, but it also goes a step further. This BLT also includes a mouth-watering slice of seared ahi tuna and a special dressing that really takes the taste to a new level.

Loco Moco
This Hawaiian-style dish starts with a bed of sticky rice atop which mushroom, carmelized Wagyu beef, and a fried egg are mixed. And all that is served is covered with savory homemade gravy. If you’ve been out swimming all day and need something to fill you up, you ought to consider ordering this local favorite.

The Mai Tai
Not a food dish, but seeing as The Crooked Surf is primarily a tiki bar-style environment, we can’t forgo a mention of their top-tier drink list. The mai tai here utilizes a traditional recipe that makes the drink more tart than is typically found on the mainland. Meanwhile, the bartenders use only house-made syrups that are comprised of fresh juices. So even if you don’t typically like mai tais, you should give this Hawaiian twist a try.

As with most resort-based attractions and dining establishments on Kauai, customer service here is top-notch. The Crooked Surf is generally characterized as a bar in reviews and similar such publications, but the environment is decidedly more family-friendly than adult-themed. Remember, you are just a few steps from the ocean and a long green lawn next to the restaurant’s tables offers the perfect place for kids to run and play while waiting for the meal.
