Kauai Partea is a sweet shop that features everything from rolled ice cream to boba to bubble waffles. Located in an unassuming food court in the Kukui Grove shopping complex, people come here for quick treats that pack in plenty of flavors. They also come for a taste of the exotic. So if you’ve never had a hot dog wrapped up in a bubble waffle, this would definitely be the place to try.

The Run Down

Before coming to Kauai Partea, it helps to know the cuisine a little better:

Bubble waffles
Bubble waffles may remind you more of cake in terms of texture than a standard waffle. They’re named for the half-moon spheres that decorate the top of the waffle, and they can be used for sweet or savory meals and snacks.

Boba
Boba or bubble tea is typically associated with tapioca (though it can be made with red bean or grass jelly). These chewy balls provide texture to the tea and give it an extra dimension. At Kauai Partea, they sweeten their boba with brown sugar.

Rolled ice cream
Milk, cream, and sugar are given a textural boost in the rolling process. When on the ice pan, the chef will incorporate air pockets by stirring the mixture before laying out the strips of ice cream. Once rolled, the results are placed vertically into a cup. It’s a feast for the eyes as much as it is for your tongue.

When you’re at Kauai Partea, we recommend the following items:

Lava Flow
This boba tea has all of the tropical flavors you want in one sip. The strawberry, coconut, and pineapple base gives you just enough sweet and tart together, and it’s all topped with a mound of whipped cream and a fresh strawberry.

Flavor Waffle
The origin of bubble waffles is up for debate, but we do know that they began in Hong Kong. In this version, the versatile waffle is topped with chocolate, matcha, strawberry, and taro. It’s all topped with a drizzle of syrup that adds just a little extra sweetness to every bite.

Cookie Monster
There are a few Oreo cookie treats on Kauai Partea’s menu, but the rolled ice cream version is our favorite. A vanilla base, crushed Oreos, chocolate drizzle, and whipped cream are freshened up with a ripe fruit topping. It’s a delectable combination that we highly recommend to anyone looking for this circular dessert.

I Love Thai
For anyone who loves Thai iced tea, the I Love Thai at Kauai Partea is definitely the drink for you. This is a Thai tea base combined with milk tea and then jazzed up with some boba.

Fruit Tea
If you’re looking for a drink that’s more refreshing (vs. a dessert), then fruit tea is a must. Jasmine green tea and fruit syrup blend together over ice, and the addition of fresh fruit makes it even tastier. Fruits vary based on season, but you can’t go wrong when you order this staple in Kauai.

Kauai Partea may not feature the standard desserts you’re used to, but there’s a reason why bubble waffles and boba tea are enduring fan favorites in cultures all over the world. Whether you’ve just had a traditional Hawaiian meal or you’re looking to refuel after a day in the water, you can find something on the menu that will give you just the lift you’re looking for.
